Special Interest Sessions (SIS)
Special Interest Sessions (SIS) are curated, discussion-led sessions exploring a topical ITS issue, challenge or emerging opportunity.
- Mostly discuss work that is underway or recently completed regionally, nationally or internationally.
- Organisers submit a plan describing how a chosen set of speakers would address key aspects of important topics - achievements, problems, trends, technology developments, policies, etc.
SIS Review Criteria
Technical Papers
Technical Papers are practice-oriented papers presenting deployments, pilots, technologies, operational experience or business and institutional aspects.
- Present current and original work, incorporating the latest field advancements.
- Encompass innovative solutions improving existing practices, providing valuable insights to others, as well as outcomes from practical work, trials, demonstrations, and pilot studies.
Technical Paper Review Criteria
Research Papers
Research Papers are rigorous, peer-reviewed papers presenting original research, methodology, analysis and validated findings.
- Actively contribute to advancing the state of the art by introducing novel concepts or addressing existing limitations.
- Demonstrate a high level of scholarship, innovation, and analytical exploration of emerging issues or solutions, surpassing mere re-examination of previously studied subjects.
Research Paper Review Criteria
Posters
Posters are concise, highly visual presentations of an idea, project, pilot, early-stage result or work in progress; designed for direct interaction.
- Present ongoing or recently completed work, including work that may not yet be sufficiently mature for a full technical or research paper and share practical experience, lessons learned and case studies from ITS deployment.
- Facilitate knowledge exchange between researchers, industry, public authorities, practitioners and other ITS stakeholders, and encourage interaction and discussion.
- Highlight emerging topics, new approaches and ideas that could contribute to the future development of ITS.
Poster Review Criteria

General Guidelines for all Submitters

All contributions must be submitted by Friday 22 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. No extensions will be granted, and late submissions will not be accepted.

Research Papers

The Organising Committee has an agreement with the Editor-in-Chief of IET Intelligent Transport Systems (IET ITS), an SCI-E (ISI) and EI indexed peer-reviewed journal, to publish the high-quality research showcased at the ITS Congresses in Europe.
Authors of Research Papers that are considered suitable for expansion and academic publication will receive a formal invitation to submit an updated and enhanced paper shortly after the Congress. Papers will go through the journal’s standard peer-review process and, if accepted for publication, will be indexed in the citations databases.
The IET will also sponsor three prizes, amounting to the equivalent of US$200 each, for the best research papers (one each from the organising regions) presented during the World Congress.

Important Information

All ITS Congress participants are required to register.
Acceptance of a paper, poster or special interest session entitles speakers, moderators, and presenters to a reduced registration fee.
To secure a presentation slot, registration and payment must be completed by the announced deadline; otherwise, the slot may be reassigned.
Travel and accommodation costs remain the responsibility of accepted speakers, moderators and presenters.
