Mike Waters is Chief Technology and Insight Officer at the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and a member of its Executive Board.
He leads digital, data, and technology across the region’s transport system, shaping how evidence and innovation inform policy, planning, and service delivery.
Mike has extensive experience in transport, including smart ticketing, mobility data, autonomous vehicle services and the integration of digital technologies to support network efficiency and customer outcomes. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Midland Metro Limited and an Independent Governor at the University of Wolverhampton.
He is Chair of the UK ITS World Congress Host Organising Committee, supporting delivery of the 2027 Congress in Birmingham and the West Midlands, with a focus on practical application of intelligent transport systems at scale.
